According the production notes,  the film was shot over 12 weeks during summer 2006. The filmmakers were careful to portray a France that would subvert Bean’s—and perhaps the audience’s—preconceptions of the country. Director Bendelack and his team wanted Bean initially to have a clichéd idea of France, epitomized by the yogurt commercial that he disrupts: a France with peaceful, old villages set upon perfect landscapes. Several Cote d'Azur locations are featured including  a glorious shot of the Bay of Villefranche and Cap Ferat. With guidance from Film France and the Provence Film Commission, the panorama was shot from a well-known lookout, situated in a layby at the corner of Avenue Olivula and Chemin de Saint Michel. 150m from the sea and 380m above sea level, it certainly ranks among the most majestic views of the region, with Eze, the jagged coast of the Cap d’Ail and even Corsica being visible. Other locations include Cannes, where for the final climatic scene of Bean walking out of the Palais des Festivals was filmed. The scene was a major undertaking, requiring a temporary structure to be built next to the Palais. The normally-pedestrianised area (Promenade Robert Favre le Bret) next to the Palais was filled full of vehicles for a traffic jam.
